Winter Conference 2024: Takeaways & Impacts

Day 1: First Gathering of Leaders of Five Nations on Friday January 26, 2024: On Friday January 26th, the Five Nations Leaders joined together for a Regional Meeting of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Nation, the Lenape of Pennsylvania, the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware, the Powhatan Renape Nation, and the Ramapough Munsee Nations at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. They were hosted by Professors Brian Schillling and Oscar Schofield of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. We were also joined by members of the NJ Commission of Native American Affairs.
Day Two: Five Nations Talking Circle and Presentation by Dr. Lyla June Johnston on Saturday January 27th at the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey.

But the threats of global warming, genocides, neofascism, white heteropatriarchy, and narcissistic billionaires must be met with a global citizenry pushing back. This deep dive into our particular intersected historical genealogies is essential for coming together in truly participatory democracies. The event started with an opening prayer and blessing from Chief Mann. This event was free in person and online. Those attending in person will get the benefit of live music, great talks, good food, books, and being part of the Marion Thompson Wright tradition, please save the date for next year!
